DuPont Teijin Films, the world's leading manufacturer of PET and PEN polyester films, offers a range of films tailored to the photovoltaic market.
In existing technologies the most popular backsheet construction is a "sandwich" of Mylar® PET polyester film between two layers of DuPontTM Tedlar®. This trilaminate is commonly referred to as T/P/T. Mylar® polyester film is the ideal candidate for the TPT laminate because of its properties:
Mylar® PET polyester films for this application area are available in a range of thicknesses from 50 microns (2 mil) up to 250 microns (10 mil), with other thicknesses possible by discussion.
In the future heat stabilised Melinex® PET and Teonex® PEN polyester films will have an important role in tomorrow's flexible solar cells as their increased dimensional stability provides an ability to be processed at higher temperatures.
The diagram below compares the properties of heat stabilised Melinex® PET and Teonex® PEN polyester films.
Film selection is dependent on the performance required of the film at a given temperature. Heat stabilised Teonex® PEN polyester films able to be processed at higher temperatures than heat stabilised Melinex® PET polyester films.
